Melissa is 23 and has two kids Quen Quen and King. Please pray for her and her family. Her husband JohnJohn has been in and out of their families lives struggling with a drug addiction. He is home right now but has a difficult time finding a job because of a hiring discrimination against some of the native tribal people. Melissa though, is going to school 3 days a week to get her high school equivalency so she can go to college to support her family. She has also been working 3 days a week doing laundry and housecleaning but even working 3 days a week, it never meets their family’s basic needs and they go hungry many times. On top of that, her job ended recently, so now they rely on the goodness of their neighbors to help them out each day; the poor serving the poor.
Their son King is very malnourished and needs formula to gain weight, and just like in the US, it’s expensive here. We’re talking at least 1000 pesos ($24 USD) a week! Both kids need to be taking vitamins and getting more protein in their diet. Eggs, beans, and meat aren’t included in the everyday budget of the poor. Because they’re malnourished, the kids get sick more often. In fact, King just got out of the hospital again. The weight he had gained over the last 3 months he pretty much lost with this last illness, so he needs to stay on the formula for an extended period of time. Up until now Melissa had a sponsor donating for King’s formula but that fund ran out.
